Katrina & a Waves were the pop rock band of the 1980s, best known for their megahit "Walking on Sunshine".
Formed within 1981 in Cambridge, England, the Waves were fronted by American-born singer Katrina Leskanich until she left the class action around 1999. Their lead guitar player is Kimberley Rew, formerly of the Soft Boys.
Within 1985 a class action got a worldwide hit by using the song "Walking on Sunshine", however popularised now as a sense-adept summertime track, utilized inside many feature & advertisement. The Grammy award nominee for "Best New Artist" followed, & many seasons of touring were followed by moderate sales of newly releases.
Per late 90, a band experienced almost disappeared, however briefly surged back into a limelight by winning a Eurovision Song Contest for the United Kingdom on 3rd May 1997 with the song "Love Shine A Light". Reacting to the wwithin, Katrina said it was the 2nd landslide triumph in a week; the song won by a record points margin, & Tony Blair had won the 1997 British general election two days antecedently.
Six years when a original band split higher, Katrina formed a fresh class action inside an attempt to repeat the Waves' Eurovision triumph, this period around Sweden. At a 2005 Melodifestivalen, the competition to choose Sweden's entry, the class action failed to qualify directly from either the for semi-semi of the competition, & were at length eliminated inside a '2nd-risk semi'. Getting planned to call for themselves "Katrina and the New Wave", it dubbed themselves "Katrina and the Nameless" when legal objections from either a original Waves.
Leskanich was quoted in the New York Times reacting to sharing a title by using a 2005 hurricane whose storm surge devastated New Orleans:
A MSNBC news program Countdown with Keith Olbermann dubbed its coverage of the hurricane "Katrina and the waves", & a title appeared within many newspaper headline & blog posts.
